Soon all games will look alike. I'll take an atmospheric game any day over this. COD4 holds nothing over Half-life, Bioshock, Halo 1,2,3, Far Cry Instincts, Fear, The Darkness, Gears of War. Just my opinion, but those who are looking for a really cool mind bending ride would do well to look elsewhere. I've reached the conclusion that COD games and games like Rainbow Six vegas simply don't offer those qualities, although Vegas is a little more in that direction. These games are great for a large portion of the population, but for those who are looking for games with a dark twisted side as I always am, don't be a sucker for the hype surrounding COD4. You WILL be disappointed. This review is in no way to be considered an objective evaluation, no review is. I just don't like seeing COD being compared with other games that are WAY different, and in my opinion, WAY better. The best of Infinity Ward! Rating: 5 I was a huge fan of Call of Duty 2, which was also the brainchild of Infinity Ward. Call of Duty 4 shows how they have since then honed their juicy game-creating skills and chocked this title to the brim with delights. Shooting an enemy through thin walls, pinpoint satellite barrages, flash bang grenades that actually cause the effects of a flash bang grenade; these just name a few trinkets of the genius presented in this masterpiece. The graphics in the actual game play are enough to make one salivate like Homer Simpson (mmmmnnnn....graphics....achlhhhhh). The physics system is astounding as cars and select walls can be obliterated. The multiplayer is in a league of its own and may cause hours of mind-blowing entertainment. As far as Halo 3, I was very pleased. For those who were not pleased with the Master Chief this time around, Call of Duty 4 is a great alternative. All in all, this title is a true-to-life next-gen experience. A definite must-have. BEST REALISTIC FIRST PERSON SHOOTER EVER Rating: 5 I have played many fps games on x-box and the 360; Halo, Ghost Recon, etc. I am five missions in on the single player campaign (regular difficulty). Please note that I come from a real-world military background. Based on my experiences, I have litte patience for over-the-top shooters, with little real-world grounding, and lack of attention to detail. My main go-to game was Battlefield 2, in multiplayer (the single player caimpagn flat sucks). Now it is C.O.D. 4. This game is the most balanced, entertaining and realistic first person shooter I have ever played. I enjoy Halo, but am aware of its...foibles; 30 foot high jumps, needlers, etc. C.O.D.4 is totally immersive: enemy A.I., bullet/explosive physics, the difference between cover and concealment, ragdoll physics, sound; it is all here. Coupled with a story and characters you care about! And the Spooky Gunship mission...sheer perfection. They say the devil's in the details. Well someone got the details right. Regarding Multiplayer: this is a revelation. It is balanced, high tension entertainment that cannot accurate be put into words. The maps are challenging and foster tactics and strategy. This is now the benchmark. The Halo Boys are behind the Eight Ball on this one.
